The captain of the Edmonton Oilers, Connor McDavid, had two goals and an assist against the Calgary Flames in the first regular-season game ever played at Rogers Place. McDavid’s two goals happened less than three minutes apart during the second period.
The 19-year-old helped turn out a positive outcome for the special night and first game of the inaugural season. The game was tied 3-3 after the Oilers gave up a 3-1 lead in the second period on consecutive shorthanded goals. McDavid had a tremendous night with the fourth and fifth goal to give the Oilers a 5-3 lead.
